How does the film demonstrate, imagine, or document the kind of media landscape through which hip hop music proliferated as a form? What aspects of the film resonated with the course materials and our class discussion?

Your response should be about 2 double space pages in length (Normal margins, Times New Roman, 12-pt font). In your answer, you should draw from particular examples throughout the film.

Purdue has a helpful resource on writing about film that I’m linking here. Although their essay is a close analysis of a narrative film, I’d like you to read the editor’s notes as a helpful guide (noted in brackets [ED:]). You want to present relevant details of the film to the reader in order to then analyze or commet on them. Even though your reader has seen the film, we haven’t seen it through your eyes. Tethering your comments to specific moments, discussions, or visual images helps deepen your argument.

8pts – Pass

Your essay explored the themes of the documentary, using evidence from the film and aptly incorporating discussions in the course.

10pts – Pass+

Your essay was exemplary in at least two ways, demonstrating unique mastery over the course materials and profound insight into the film.
